What are Dental Implants?

Traditional dentures and dental bridges only sit above the gumline, restoring the visible portion of your smile. However, dental implants extend beneath the gums, all the way to the jawbone, delivering complete root-to-crown restoration. As titanium posts that fit within the jawbone, they stimulate the area to prevent facial collapse while also supporting newly designed crowns, bridges, and dentures. As long as they are properly maintained, they can often last a lifetime.
The 4 Step Dental Implant Process

Replacing your missing teeth with a dental implant restoration can take between three and six months, so it’s a good idea to know what you should expect. The entire process can be broken down into four main steps, which your implant dentist in West Palm Beach will be sure to discuss in more detail during your consultation. In the meantime, our team will be happy to address any questions or concerns you may have, so don’t hesitate to give us a call!
Initial Dental Implant Consultation

The first step to restoring your smile with dental implants is to make sure Dr. Shevy thoroughly understands your treatment goals. That means meeting with her for a consultation, where you’ll have time to explain your needs, talk about your schedule, and voice questions or concerns. Dr. Shevy will also examine your mouth to evaluate whether you’ll need preliminary treatments like bone grafting or gum disease therapy.
Dental Implant Surgery

Since we can complete the entire dental implant process in-house, you’ll return to our office for your implant surgery. Dr. Shevy will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic, and if requested, will administer dental sedation before getting started. Once you’re comfortable, she’ll make a small incision in your gumline so she can place the implant posts at strategic locations along your jawbone.
Dental Implant Osseointegration & Abutment Placement

It’s important for your mouth to undergo a full recovery after dental implant surgery, and it will take a couple of months for the implant posts to fuse with your jawbone. But when Dr. Shevy is confident the posts are secure and your jaw is ready, she’ll promptly fix the small connector piece (or the “abutment”) to the posts. This will enable her to attach your crown, bridge, or denture to your implants in the future.
Delivery of Dental Implant Restorations

While we’re getting your smile ready for your customized restoration, our partners at the dental lab will be busy fabricating the piece. Rest assured, Dr. Shevy will work closely with them to help ensure your restoration fits well and looks great. As soon as it’s delivered to our office, we’ll let you know that it’s time for your final appointment! If you determine you’d like a few minor adjustments, don’t worry. We’ll be able to complete them before you leave.
