Wearing Your Trays

You’ll need to consistently wear your aligners for twenty to twenty-two hours each day and switch to the next set in your sequence every one or two weeks depending on the details of your treatment plan. Neglecting to wear your aligners sufficiently each day can lead to potentially costly treatment setbacks, so it’s ideal to only remove them for meals and oral hygiene sessions.

Cleaning Your Aligners

Only clean your Invisalign trays with cool or lukewarm water since water that is too hot or cold can warp them and compromise their ability to straighten out your smile. It’s important to rinse your trays each time before placing them in your mouth to eliminate residues and food debris that can lead to complications and treatment delays. You’ll also need to thoroughly clean your aligners using a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear hand soap or by soaking them with Invisalign cleaning crystals for fifteen to thirty minutes each day. It’s also imperative to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth each time before reinserting your aligners.

Eating & Drinking

While Invisalign allows patients to eat and drink whatever they like during treatment, it’s crucial to always remove your aligners before consuming anything but liquid water. Invisalign trays are not designed to withstand the pressures of chewing, and food particles or liquids trapped beneath these devices will be protected from the mouth’s natural cleaning process, which can lead to treatment-delaying cavities. Exposing your trays to foods, pigments, and dyes can also stain them, which will make them more conspicuous when worn. When not wearing your trays, store them in a protective case to prevent their being damaged or lost.

Losing or Damaging a Tray

Losing an Invisalign tray doesn’t mean your orthodontic process has failed, but it’s crucial to have the issue addressed promptly to avoid treatment delays. If trays are lost, it’s usually because the patient took them out for a meal and neglected to store them in a protective case. If you lose or damage a tray, contact our office. Dr. Shevy will probably recommend either simply moving on to the next tray in your sequence or reverting to the previous one while a new appliance is manufactured.

Routine Check-Ins

You’ll need to visit our office every four to eight weeks so we can make sure your treatment is progressing as planned and provide you with new aligners when necessary. These visits are usually quite brief (about fifteen minutes or so), which makes Invisalign especially great for those with busy schedules.
