What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of removable, clear aligners to gradually straighten teeth. These aligners are virtually invisible, unlike traditional metal braces, offering a discreet way to achieve a healthier and more attractive smile. Designed using 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign® aligners are custom-made to fit snugly over your teeth to gradually move the teeth into the desired position.
How Does Invisalign® Work?

The process begins with a consultation with our dentist to assess your teeth and discuss your goals. If Invisalign is suitable for you, a detailed treatment plan is developed. This plan involves taking impressions of your teeth, which are then used to create a digital 3D model. From this model, a series of customized aligners are fabricated. Each aligner is slightly different, moving your teeth incrementally. You'll wear each set of aligners for about one to two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series.
Who Can Invisalign Help?

You may have heard that Invisalign isn’t for everyone. That’s true; there are some cases of malocclusion that are so severe that traditional braces are the only solution. That said, clear aligners can correct several common orthodontic problems, including overbites and overcrowding. So, if you are interested in straightening your teeth and aligning your bite without metal brackets and wires, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with us!
Crowded Teeth

Crowded teeth don’t just take a toll on your self-esteem. They take a toll on your oral health and increase your risk of dental damage. That’s why we encourage patients to schedule a consultation with us, even if they are happy with their smiles. From there, we can determine if Invisalign is a solution and, if it is, create a healthier and even more beautiful smile with a custom series of clear aligners.
Gaps Between Teeth

Are there noticeable gaps between your teeth? If so, then you already know how easily food particles, plaque, and other debris can get caught. Unfortunately, this isn’t just annoying; it’s something that can negatively impact your oral health. The good news is that Invisalign has proven to be effective at correcting mild to moderate cases of misalignment, so the path forward may be a metal-free one!
Overbite

Having upper teeth that jut out beyond the lower ones may not seem like much of an issue. However, overbites can lead to several problems, including chronic jaw pain, trouble enunciating clearly, and premature wear. That’s why we don’t recommend taking the “wait and see” approach. Instead, explore your orthodontic treatment options, like Invisalign.
Underbite

Naturally, the opposite problem (the lower teeth sitting in front of the upper ones) can also lead to trouble. Whether you’re currently dealing with chronic jaw pain or you simply aren’t happy with how your smile looks, Invisalign may be the solution you’ve been looking for! Oftentimes, we can correct mild to moderate cases with clear, comfortable, and convenient aligners.
Crossbite

If some, but not all, of your upper teeth sit in front of your lower ones, then you likely have a crossbite. This orthodontic problem can make it difficult to smile confidently and lead to considerable dental damage. So, don’t wait – give us a call to schedule a consultation! Once we know more about your dental needs and your smile goals, we can determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign.
Open Bite

Open bites are usually the result of genetics or a childhood habit, like thumb-sucking. Unfortunately, like the other bite problems on this list, they can negatively impact everything from your oral health to your self-esteem. So, it’s important to have yours corrected sooner rather than later. The first step? Scheduling a consultation with us!
Benefits of Invisalign®

Oftentimes, patients assume that the benefits of Invisalign® begin and end with the discreet appearance of the aligners. In reality, there is so much more to this orthodontic treatment! In this next section, you’ll find a few of the many reasons why more than 17 million patients have chosen this teeth-straightening service.
Unmatched Aesthetics

Let’s start with one of the most obvious benefits: Invisalign® aligners are nearly invisible. As a result, patients no longer have to endure 2+ years of “metal mouth” to achieve their dream smiles. Instead, they can achieve the same incredible results with clear, barely noticeable aligners.
Improved Comfort

Another considerable perk: Invisalign® aligners don’t have any metal components. As a result, they are considerably more comfortable than traditional braces. In fact, many patients who opt for this innovative treatment don’t experience any soft tissue irritation or mouth sores!
Time Efficiency

While there are several factors that need to be considered, traditional braces typically take 2+ years. Invisalign®, on the other hand, often delivers the same results in just 12-18 months! So, if you are antsy to have the straight, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted, clear aligner treatment is the way to go!
No Dietary Restrictions

If you’ve had traditional braces before, then you may remember that there is a long list of dietary restrictions that come with the metal brackets and wires. That’s not the case with Invisalign®! Since the aligners are removable, you’re free to resume your usual diet throughout the treatment process (as long as you don’t overindulge on added sugar and crunchy foods, of course).
Hassle-Free Dental Care

One benefit of Invisalign® that patients often overlook is the fact that maintaining a healthy smile is easy. That’s because the aligners are removable! So, all you need to do is take them off, rinse them with clean, cool water, and place them in their designated case first. Then, you’re free to brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash like usual.
Ultimate Convenience

Thanks to computerized treatment planning, patients have a clearer idea of what their teeth will look like post-treatment. Plus, there aren’t monthly appointments with Invisalign®. Instead, you’ll come to our office every 6-8 weeks, and the rest of the time you’ll be able to progress through your treatment plan at home!
If you are interested in learning more about the perks of Invisalign®, take the next step: schedule a consultation with us! We’d love to learn more about your smile goals, determine if you’re a good candidate, and, if you are, discuss the benefits that come with this orthodontic treatment more in-depth.
Living with Invisalign Aligners
While Invisalign can be an easier and more comfortable way to address dental misalignments than traditional braces, the treatment still requires a significant amount of effort and discipline on the patient’s part. Here’s a brief guide to what living with Invisalign is like from the friendly team at Premier Dentistry of the Palm Beaches, but please feel free to contact us online if you have any questions.
Wearing Your Trays
You’ll need to consistently wear your aligners for twenty to twenty-two hours each day and switch to the next set in your sequence every one or two weeks depending on the details of your treatment plan. Neglecting to wear your aligners sufficiently each day can lead to potentially costly treatment setbacks, so it’s ideal to only remove them for meals and oral hygiene sessions.
Cleaning Your Aligners
Only clean your Invisalign trays with cool or lukewarm water since water that is too hot or cold can warp them and compromise their ability to straighten out your smile. It’s important to rinse your trays each time before placing them in your mouth to eliminate residues and food debris that can lead to complications and treatment delays. You’ll also need to thoroughly clean your aligners using a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear hand soap or by soaking them with Invisalign cleaning crystals for fifteen to thirty minutes each day. It’s also imperative to thoroughly brush and floss your teeth each time before reinserting your aligners.
Eating & Drinking
While Invisalign allows patients to eat and drink whatever they like during treatment, it’s crucial to always remove your aligners before consuming anything but liquid water. Invisalign trays are not designed to withstand the pressures of chewing, and food particles or liquids trapped beneath these devices will be protected from the mouth’s natural cleaning process, which can lead to treatment-delaying cavities. Exposing your trays to foods, pigments, and dyes can also stain them, which will make them more conspicuous when worn. When not wearing your trays, store them in a protective case to prevent their being damaged or lost.
Losing or Damaging a Tray
Losing an Invisalign tray doesn’t mean your orthodontic process has failed, but it’s crucial to have the issue addressed promptly to avoid treatment delays. If trays are lost, it’s usually because the patient took them out for a meal and neglected to store them in a protective case. If you lose or damage a tray, contact our office. Dr. Shevy will probably recommend either simply moving on to the next tray in your sequence or reverting to the previous one while a new appliance is manufactured.
Routine Check-Ins
You’ll need to visit our office every four to eight weeks so we can make sure your treatment is progressing as planned and provide you with new aligners when necessary. These visits are usually quite brief (about fifteen minutes or so), which makes Invisalign especially great for those with busy schedules.
